The new City Sightseeing stops beyond the city center
In Barriera they dream. A simple phrase, which embodies the start of a journey from the center of Turin, from Piazza Castello, to the northern outskirts of the city. It consists of an itinerary between two theaters, the Regio and the Marchesa of corso Vercelli 141.
There are just over 3 kilometers between these two realities, but within there are many worlds. They can be discovered on board a City Sightseeing bus, departing on Sunday 19 June at 6.30 pm inside the 13 Teatrocomunit in Festival. It will be the final event, The bus of dreams, with a real tour in stages inside the Barriera di Milano.
At each stop, an inhabitant or an actor of the neighborhood will get on board to tell a story, their own, which reveals the love and passion for these streets, the memories of the past, of when between via Bologna and via Sempione it was really all countryside. The history of Barriera di Milano the history of a city, its industrial development and its architectural and social change. The initiative was born from the idea of bringing the Circumscriptions to the center, according to the activity promoted by the departments of culture and the peripheries, but with a different intent. Since we are talking about it – explains Maria Grazia Agricola, artistic director of the event and of the Choros association – we said to ourselves that instead we must bring the spectators to the suburbs. With our festival we have always had a good audience, but the idea of taking a tour bus also has a small dose of irony. Normally, the red open buses take tourists to see the monuments, the squares, the Turin postcards.
This time, however, we go towards the Tobacco Factory, the first stop, then we move along via Bologna, corso Novara, corso Giulio Cesare, places certainly not known for their tourist appeal, but rather for reasons of crime. The aim, on the other hand, is also to show the artistic fabric of Barriera di Milano, one of the liveliest and most varied in the city, with its own initiatives, the houses in the neighborhood, the theater, contemporary art, and murals.
At the helm are the actresses Giulietta De Bernardi and Cline Schlotter, who between music and performance will give the rhythm to the various interventions, alternating stories with songs. The initiative, supported by the Crt Foundation, also has a contribution from the District 6. We have a mixed audience – adds Maria Grazia Agricola – and I don’t think there is a risk of slumming (of those who, coming from very different social classes, participate in go and see “beyond” and clear your conscience, ed) and I don’t think there is that kind of audience. Then, even if there were, Barrier has antibodies. There are many interesting experiences and the Turin public knows them. Indeed, it is more difficult to involve the people of the neighborhood, especially the new citizens, because they are people taken by life emergencies who experience culture as an option.
Already about twenty people, meanwhile, have asked for information for Sunday and it is likely that a full house will be reached on board the bus. The tour, at a cost of 15 euros per person, also includes stops at the Ettore Fico Museum and then, to conclude, at the Marchesa Theater, where the Archive of dreams will be held with Rodolfo Brescia, Luisona Choc, Piera Dal Pr and Gabriella Bellicini (and also the aperitif included in the price). There are also reductions, while the tour then includes the return to Piazza Castello (for info and reservations: choroscomunita.com).
