AEW Suspends Jeff Hardy: Successful Rehab Condition of Return – AEW Dynamite #141: Road Rager Preview

– As we also reported (here and here), Jeff Hardy was recently arrested again for driving under the influence. AEW President Tony Khan also commented on the issue himself on Twitter. There he wrote to be in contact with Jeff Hardy. It was made clear to him that they would help him with his problems and support him with withdrawal. Hardy is said to have agreed to accept the help and undergo rehab. Until then, Jeff is suspended without pay. There will only be a return to the AEW ring if the treatment is successful and if he remains permanently clean. According to Bryan Alvarez, the initial discussion was about his dismissal, after things calmed down it was decided to offer him professional help first. But they wanted to wait with the statement until they had contact with Jeff.

The court date is now set. Jeff Hardy is scheduled to face the judge on July 5th. The penalty is a fine of up to $5,000 and/or up to five years in prison.

The course of the day has since been reconstructed to some extent. So Jeff and his brother Matt were at a wrestling convention in Orlando. Matt and his wife, Reby, escorted Jeff to his hotel room before boarding a flight back to North Carolina. A few hours later, Jeff borrowed a car on his own, which he then used to drive (it is still unclear why he still had a driver’s license, which he shouldn’t have had since 2019). Reby has now turned to critics via social media, who have accused her and her husband of not putting a stop to Jeff’s actions. She said she did everything she could to ensure that there was no alcohol at the convention and that neither she nor Matt could be held responsible for the actions of another adult.

– The recent events surrounding Jeff Hardy have changed the plans for today’s edition of AEW Dynamite: Road Rager. Of course, the Hardys will not take part in the match for the AEW Tag Team Championship today, as originally announced. The ladder match will take place, but the Jurassic Express will only defend its title against the Young Bucks. In addition, a match between NJPW top star Will Ospreay and Dax Harwood and a rematch from the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament between Dr. Britt Baker and Toni Storm announced. A hair vs. hair match between Chris Jericho and Ortiz, Ethan Page vs. Miro in the tournament for the new AEW All-Atlantic Championship, and a 20-on-1 handicap match between Wardlow and 20 Securitys were confirmed last week. Also, Hiroshi Tanahashi will perform on tonight’s show. He will face his opponent in the AEW x NJPW: The Forbidden Door PPV, Jon Moxley, in one segment.
